FAQs

Can I include a personal message with my order?

Yes. Just email me at Derk@dlzieglerart.com as soon as you complete your order and I will include your message in the gift box. I love the idea of someone receiving something very special, something they will treasure and start a tradition by handing down to the next generation.

Do you take custom requests?

At this time I am not taking personal requests for custom work online. I do accept custom requests from local clients. I am in my studio in Moline, Illinois every day, designing, drawing, making patterns, cutting glass, crafting and following my hearts desire during the creative process. The best way to find unique pieces is to return to the website frequently. Or if you are in the Quad City Area,,,,you know who you are!!! Just email me to get the process started. My work takes time, and is not a spur of the moment gift, so plan ahead if you can.

How did you become an Artist/Craftsman?

I had creative parents with wonderful imaginations. Also, when I got out of the Army in 1993, I wanted to do something fun and creative too. Making art began as a sort of therapy for myself, I did get an Associates of Fine art from my community college, but had to teach myself how to work with glass. I began by making engravings in clear sheet glass in 1994, and that evolved into what I do today. Right now I am focusing on fusing and glass on glass mosaic style to get away from using Lead, Foil and Solder.

Do you sign your pieces?

Sometimes. I don’t like to have a signature ruin the effect of light coming through the finished work, so i include a signed card that I recommend keeping with your original custom box that all my pieces come with.

Why don’t you make lots of one style or design?

I despise mass produced items,,,of any  kind. I prefer to produce limited pieces, sometimes only one original, or 2 to 6 of any one design and then move on. I am not a production Artist. I have many interests and like to express them through my craftsmanship. I thrive on experimenting and am always learning in my craft, that’s what keeps it interesting.

Sometimes I look on your site and it seems sorta bare. Why?

Once again, I am not a production artist, and I am a little bit of a perfectionist. I like the unpredictability of some of my chosen materials, but if I see something that bothers me, I don’t post it. My goal is to create limited pieces that are heirloom quality.

You mention the Holy Spirit. Are you a Christian?

Why yes I am. I recognize that if it weren’t for GODs guidance and the Spirit of Jesus Christ intervening into my life, I would be lost. I connected the ability to capture that Spirit in the use of glass as a media, but you wont only find crosses here, I am inspired by many things, all of which make up the entirety of GODs Creation.

How come I can’t find your social presence?

Uh, because I don’t have one. I only recently felt the need to reach out with a website. I am an Artist in the truest sense. I spend all my time managing myself and hanging with family. I would much rather make my family a wonderful supper than post some ridiculous video or comments on todays events. I am not trying to reach the masses, only those that appreciate hard work and creative living.
